A Highway for Snakes?
The California King Snake is the king of all snakes, but also characterized by it's protective qualities. This snake is not endangeered by shifts in climate, but rather its reputation as dangerous, deadly, and evil. Are snakes so spearate from us?
Highways pose a threat to snake habitats. Snakes are drawn to highways because they are hot and rumbling - the perfect conditions for snakes as they thermoregulate. I have focused on the Marina Highway in Southern LA which stretches between two main snake habitats in the LA region: the Balona Wetlands and the Inglewood Oil Field.
