Landscape as memory, history, journey, and desire.
The cranberry bog industry is in decline. How can we re-envision this economy and landscape while honoring its heritage? This site was a nail factory at the mouth of a river. In a few decades it may be under water, but kayak tours to monuments of the past will be available. Visitors will begin to feel previous histories, while supporting these regions with eco-tourism.
Can Wareham reuse their industrial history as an ecological solution that will serve as an amenity for migrating residents of the future?
Wareham is prime for revitalization. The Tremont Nail campus in particular sits at the first dam of many along the Winkinco River and is very close to the heart of Wareham. Redefining access to this historic industrial site prioritizes community space and coastal living. Monumentalizing Atlantic sea trade with recreational, daily kayak use resurfaces the ecology and experience of naval migration in a multi-sensory way.
